Floodplain Map Viewer:
Search By Address

The purpose of this document is to explain how to use the Floodplain map viewer’s Zoom To Map Extent tool to search for a given address.

Additional help documentation for the viewer can be accessed by clicking on the question mark icon # on the map tools menu.

#

Search by Address using the Zoom To Map Extent tool

#

Click on the zoom tools menu; then click on Zoom To Map Extent. You can search by address, county or section-township-range.

Select Address from the pulldown menu and click Next.

#

Enter the street address and Zip Code, and click Execute. (Note: The Address field is not case-sensitive; ZipCode is a required field.)

#

After clicking Execute, the Map Navigator will automatically zoom to the best-matched address, place a point graphic and label it with the address. The Address Map Extent tool does not access a specific layer; instead, the tool zooms to the best-matched location found on a linear street layer embedded in the map viewer. The location may not be 100% correct due to inaccuracies in the street layer (similar to MapQuest and other internet mapping web sites). (Note: Zooming to a feature with this tool will not turn on a layer or make it visible. To turn layers on/off, use the Layers tab to check/uncheck appropriate layers and hit the Refresh button #. You can click on the Legend tab to see what the different colors represent.)

#

To view the parcel boundaries, check the appropriate box next to the layer name on the Layers tab and click the Refresh button.

To view parcel information, click on the parcel layer name to make it bold. Then click the Set Active Layer button # . The layer should now be set as "active." Now click the Identify button # on the map tools menu and click within a given parcel to view its information.
