The Southwest Florida Water Management District is an environmental and resource protection agency committed to managing Florida’s water and water-related resources for its ever-growing population.
District activities include issuing permits for various water use activities; research, restoration and preservation; acquisition of lands for preservation of vital water resources; mapping, classification of wetlands; and public education programs.
With locations in Brooksville, Tampa, Bartow and Sarasota, staff members are responsible for managing ground and surface water supplies in all or part of 16 counties in west-central Florida.

How to apply
- A District employment application is required in order to be considered for a position at SWFWMD. You may apply online or download the district employment application. Our preferred method of receiving your application is via the online application, since we use electronic processing.
- Submit a separate application for each position desired from our currently advertised positions. Job opportunity listings are updated on an ongoing basis.
- Referral to a resume in lieu of a response on an application is not acceptable.
- An incomplete application will not be considered. It is very important that you provide as much information as possible about your skills, knowledge and abilities. Your invitation to be interviewed is based solely upon the written information you provide on the application.
- Veterans’ preference is given to eligible veterans and spouses of veterans in accordance with Chapter 295, Florida Statutes. Documentation of eligibility for veterans’ preference must be submitted at time of application. The District will follow the requirements of Chapter 295, Florida Statutes and Chapter 55A-7, F.A.C., in determining eligibility for veterans’ preference.
- Downloaded employment applications are accepted in any District office during the normal business day, which is 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. However, your application must be received in the Human Resources Department and date stamped by 5 p.m. on the closing date.
- Your application will receive careful consideration and, if selected for an interview, you will be contacted by telephone for an appointment.

The Southwest Florida Water Management District is a drug-free workplace
