What is the Water Conservation Kit?
The Water Conservation Kit is a collection of teaching and learning materials designed to help students in grades K-3 learn about water conservation while acquiring valuable reading skills. Developed with the Environmental Education Regional Service Project, Region IV, this collection provides opportunities for primary students to engage in hands-on science and learn about the importance of water conservation. Activities and materials are correlated to Florida's Sunshine State Standards and benchmarks in language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, physical education and the arts.
What is in the Water Conservation Kit?
Books Amazing Water; Water, Water Everywhere; The Important Book; Where Does the Water Go?; The Magic School Bus: At The Waterworks; The Magic School Bus: Wet All Over; Listen to the Rain; and Come On, Rain are entertaining publications designed to increase student awareness of water topics.
Step-by-Step Water is an excellent resource for water-related science experiments.
Think Big: Creating Big Books with Children offers ways to involve children in language arts activities through the creation of a big book that can be shared with an entire class.
Little Drop of Water on My Brain is an original big book designed especially for the Water Conservation Kit.
Every Little Drop Counts (Water Conservation Education Kit Teacher's Guide, Grades K-3) is a collection of activities and experiments incorporating the water conservation kit resources. The guide includes student worksheets and step-by-step instructions for teachers.
The Every Little Drop Counts cassette tape adheres to activities in the teacher's guide and contains songs about water.
The Water Conservation Kit also contains materials and supplies students need to perform simple science experiments, such as measuring cups, funnels, a rain gauge, dropper bottles, magnifiers, valves and plastic cups.
