Prescribed Burn
The practice of prescribed burning has helped restore the land at Oscar Scherer State Park to its natural state. Prescribed burning is a controlled activity in which fires are set on purpose to mimic the natural process of lightning fires. These low-heat fires burn away nonnative plants and low-lying vegetation that compete with native plants for sunlight and water. Once these plants are burned away, native plants are able to seed and reproduce.
