Water audits
A water audit will determine the amount of unaccounted-for water (UAW) and what actions are necessary to reduce losses.
EZ-audit
Allows property owners to find out how long to water without over irrigating—saving money and water.
Leak detection program summary report
This program has helped save 821 million gallons of water per year by finding and fixing leaks.
Our Urban Mobile Lab provides assistance to public water supply utilities in conserving water and reducing unaccounted-for water.
The Southwest Florida Water Management District Urban Mobile Lab was established to provide assistance to public water supply utilities in conserving water and in documenting and reducing unaccounted-for water (UAW). UAW is water that for whatever reason "disappears" between the time it enters the utility's distribution system at the withdrawal point (wells, surface water sources or interconnects with other utilities) and the time it leaves the distribution system through connections (water meters). In an ideal situation, the quantity of water which enters a distribution system through its withdrawal meters would equal the quantity of water exiting the system through service meters. Unfortunately, this is not the case. UAW typically results from faulty meters, leakage, poor accounting for unmetered uses, unauthorized use (theft), or a combination of these things. The goal of the Southwest Florida Water Management District is that all public supply utilities will reduce UAW to 12 percent or lower.
Water audit
A water audit is an accounting procedure that accurately determines the amount of UAW in a water distribution system. In addition to documenting the level of UAW, a water audit may indicate what actions are necessary to reduce UAW. If testing indicates that withdrawal or service meters are not accurate, a meter replacement program may reduce UAW to an acceptable level. When poor accounting for unmetered uses such as water main flushing or fire fighting is identified as a contributing factor, the utility can take steps to track the quantity of water used for these purposes. If a water audit fails to indicate the reason for UAW, an effort to locate and repair system leaks may be the best solution.
EZ-audit
While the Urban Mobile Lab does not provide leak detection services directly to the general public, it can assist homeowners in reducing the amount of water used for lawn irrigation via EZ-Audit. This program tests the efficiency of an in-ground irrigation system, and generates a month-by-month schedule of run times.
